Tour overview Etna Lava Flow at Sunset by 4x4
An eruption-season programme designed by Etna Explore for the period when the summit craters are off-limits for safety. Rather than miss the volcano altogether, our certified volcanological guides lead you to one of Etna's rarest sights: the active lava flow, observed safely from a privileged vantage point as daylight fades. €100 per person, with the 4x4 transfer included. Book directly and we reply within 24 hours.
The group meets at Piano Provenzana on the north flank (1,800 m) at 6:00 PM. Special 4x4 vehicles climb to the highest permitted altitude, reaching Piano delle Concazze at roughly 2,800 m, at the foot of the summit craters. From there a short, easy walk leads to the Pizzi Deneri viewpoint overlooking the eruptive fissure.
Reaching the lava front is not allowed for safety reasons, but the panoramic view over the eruptive activity makes for a striking experience all the same. The timing is built around sunset: as the light drops, the red glow of the flow becomes ever more vivid. After time for photos and a packed dinner, the group walks back to the 4x4 and descends to Piano Provenzana, arriving around 10:00 PM.
