Tour overview Etna Lava Flow at Sunset by 4x4

An eruption-season programme designed by Etna Explore for the period when the summit craters are off-limits for safety. Rather than miss the volcano altogether, our certified volcanological guides lead you to one of Etna's rarest sights: the active lava flow, observed safely from a privileged vantage point as daylight fades. €100 per person, with the 4x4 transfer included. Book directly and we reply within 24 hours.

The group meets at Piano Provenzana on the north flank (1,800 m) at 6:00 PM. Special 4x4 vehicles climb to the highest permitted altitude, reaching Piano delle Concazze at roughly 2,800 m, at the foot of the summit craters. From there a short, easy walk leads to the Pizzi Deneri viewpoint overlooking the eruptive fissure.

Reaching the lava front is not allowed for safety reasons, but the panoramic view over the eruptive activity makes for a striking experience all the same. The timing is built around sunset: as the light drops, the red glow of the flow becomes ever more vivid. After time for photos and a packed dinner, the group walks back to the 4x4 and descends to Piano Provenzana, arriving around 10:00 PM.

We enjoyed our first tour so much that we booked a second one with Vincenzo just a few days later when Etna erupted again, because we wanted to see the flowing lava. It was an unforgettable experience, and we wouldn't have trusted anyone else to guide us. If you're looking for the best guide on Etna, we highly recommend Vincenzo.

Vincenzo was a very good guide, we learned a lot about the Etna and vegetation. He was kind to other people we passed on our trekking and helping them out. We were very lucky because we saw the lava flowing that night, it was magical!!

Beautifully timed tour at sunset on the volcano. Vincenzo is super knowledgeable about anything Etna- (or Sicily-) related and he took us to some picturesque viewpoints on the mountain. Great guide!

Etna is mesmerising and wonderful and Vincenzo is the best possible guide for experiencing this utterly beautiful mountain. He is so friendly, knowledgable and passionate about this region and very clear in explaining the natural process. Everyone in our group of 7 thought his personality, knowledge and guidance were a 10/10. Cannot recommend him more highly!

Could not recommend Vincenzo more highly. Everything from communication ahead of time, flexibility and advice around our options given weather and volcanic activity, to the trip itself. Vincenzo was knowledgeable and passionate about Mount Etna, was great with the kids, and gave us a memorable day out. It is the clear highlight of our trip.

Amazing guide! Very kind and caring, gave us jackets and boots because we went to the top of the Etna and it was a cold day. He led us on paths where other groups didn't go and gave us some freedom that only comes in small groups that he is leading. I loved that personal touch and would recommend Vincenzo anytime with great confidence.
